2008 GREATER CHARLOTTE AREA HOT STOVE LEAGUE DINNER
BASEBALL/SOFTBALL ESSAY CONTEST

We are proud to announce the 1st Annual 2008 Greater Charlotte Hot Stove League Dinner Essay Contest.  The contest is open to students in the Greater Charlotte area between the grades of 4th and 12th.   Grade of writer will be taken into consideration during judging, allowing for all ages to have an equal opportunity to win.  Writers will compete in one of two divisions, 4th-8th grade, and  9-12th grade

This years topic:        What is the most important lesson you have learned through playing baseball or softball?
CRITERIA FOR JUDGING ESSAY

  • Essay must be written in logical order.
  • Paragraphs must address a single subject.
  • Theme must be clearly addressed.
  • Content must demonstrate critical and creative thinking.
  • Proper grammar, spelling and punctuation must be consistent with accepted usage.

CONTEST RULES

  • All Greater Charlotte area students in grades 4 through 12 (public, private and home schooled) are eligible.
  • Only an individual student writer may submit an essay.
  • Essays must be in paragraph format.
  • Essays may be submitted via e-mail with subject line Hot Stove Essay Contest to Tripp@southcharlottesports.com or may be mailed to:

  • Essays submitted via e-mail must be sent as an attachment in the MS Word format.
  • Student submissions must include the following:
    • Name
    • Grade
    • Home Phone Number
    • E-mail address
    • School’s name
    • School’s complete address
  • All entries are the property of the South Charlotte Sports Report and the decision of the judges and the Greater Charlotte Hot Stove League is final.
  • Entries may be published in the South Charlotte Sports Report or online at www.southcharlottesports.com or www.hotstovedinner.com


AWARDS
U.S. Savings Bonds ($100) will be awarded to the first place winners in each grade grouping.
